OHSU Resiliency Skills Elective
The following paper in MedEdPortal describes a resiliency skills elective designed to provide experiential menu of resiliency practices and strengthen emotional intelligence and social capital at Oregon Health and Science University. Three interwoven components in the course were identified as playing an crucial role in developing resiliency: resiliency practices, social support, and faculty role modeling. The eight-week weekly elective involved use of mindful awareness practices, breathing techniques, listening skills, emotional regulation skills, and positivity practices. The article presents a curriculum intended to be a fully functional guide to conducting this course. Moreover, the exercises are designed to be accessible for individuals without a prior background in mindfulness or positive psychology. The authors advise offering the course in a supportive setting with experienced faculty.
