Evaluation of a Novel Individualised Communication-Skills Training Intervention to Improve Doctors’ Confidence and Skills in End-of-Life Communication

In the following article in Palliative Medicine, Clayton et al. developed a novel individualised training program regarding end-of-life communication designed to be time effective for busy junior-doctors (interns) working in hospital settings. The participants in the pilot found the training useful and reported that it was helpful for their communication with patients. The data found significant improvements in participants’ communication skills, confidence in communicating about relevant topics, attitudes towards psychosocial care, and sense of personal accomplishment. However, no overall differences in burnout levels were found. According to the authors, the study warrants further formal evaluation.
