Addressing Physician Burnout: The Way Forward
The following article, published in JAMA, examines the next steps needed to improve physician well-being and burnout. A variety of factors, such as excessive workload, clerical burden, a loss of control over work, and work-life balance, all contribute to the tremendous change over the last Decade. Observational studies suggest physician burnout may have important repercussions for the US health care delivery system. In order to address this, the leadership of supervisors, the investment of individual time for self-care, and alleviating the burden of documentation, are all needed.
